What to Ask A Criminal Defense Lawyer 2 of 2

Are They Local?

Some attorneys will advertise in an area where they don’t reside or have an office. Local attorneys have advantages of being familiar with the judges, prosecutors and practices of the courts, which may help the outcome of your case.

Are They Making Promises about the Case?

Often a criminal defense lawyer can predict what will happen in the case, but no attorney will be able to guarantee a particular result. A lawyer should be able to inform you of all the results, including negative outcomes, and have your best interest in mind. If they are making promises about certain outcomes in a case they may not be the right choice.

What Will They Charge?

There are different ways to pay the lawyer and it’s important to note that just because a lawyer charges a low fee does not mean that they are the best person for the job. If they charge a low fee they may have too many cases or won’t explore all the options in your case.

If you find yourself in a tricky law situation, use these questions to help you find the right lawyer who will protect you.
